Expat packages

While getting rarer, expat packages are still offered in certain cases. The normal components will include the relocation allowance, housing, school fees, dining and  recreational club memberships, home leave, international pension and medical plan or local equivalent. Some employers also offer a cost of living or foreign service allowance.  Generally speaking, with an expat package, you are generally tax equalized to the home jurisdiction. As Hong Kong is a low tax jurisdiction (currently at 15%) with no capital gains tax, some employees prefer to opt out of the expat system while others negotiate a more flexible arrangement. We are happy to give you advice on the pros and cons on an individual basis.
