Most activities for children need be privately arranged or done through the residents’ clubs or the social clubs. Hutongs are old residential neighbourhoods with courtyard houses. Kids can take pedicabs through the area. There is also the lake where pedal boats can be rented. There is the Beijing Aquarium and the Zoo, though the latter may be a questionable outing.

Shanghai
There are not that many activities tailored to children. Whilst living space is not as crowded as Hong Kong, Shanghai does not have many parks or kid-friendly places. Most expat children tend to spend a lot of free time during weekends in their compound or in activities provided by children at art centers and sport groups, they include:
